   I use L-lysine when I get a mouth cold sore I began getting them when I began smoking. They go away really fast and since I quit smoking I do not get them as often except under stress.

   L lysine is natural and not unsafe to use within safe limits. It is in food and can be purchased OTC over the counter. Have you tried it there is plenty of evidence including my own experience from when I was substitute teach
   I quit smoking over 20 years ago.
   I got serious cold sores from substitute teaching before they shot teachers up in Colorado and students. So I quit substitute teaching as it was getting dangerous before even this happened and my cold sores stopped happening but L Lysine helped so much when I remembered to take it all the time or during an outbreak.

     acyclovir changes the way a cell replicates so of course it is going to cause birth defects, and various forms of cancer. But at what dosage is this? Your only using a very small amount of this and it is being used topically to a very focal area. L-lysine also works as an amino acid, and works even better preventatively when used on a continual basis and combined with vitamin B compex.

     That said, if your worried about getting cancer, then perhaps you should consider stopping smoking. The number one cause of cancer!!

2. QUESTION:
   Herpes treatment please.? ...?
   My mom has herpes and she has it bad. She has an outbreak usually once a month and it even hits her nerves. She is in a lot of pain when this happens. She is 59 years old and the otc meds for it have awful side effects including liver and heart problems so with her age it's too risky. Does anyone know of something else to help? A cream? An herb? Anything??? Thanks.

   • ANSWER:
     I spent lots of time and research looking this up myself. There aren't may options. There this stuff called Herpecin and H-Balm and other related stuff I have never tried myself. If its a cold sore on your mouth Abreva worked pretty well for me. If its genital - what worked for me is 2 1,000mg lysine in the morning and 2 at night. Epsom salt and tea tree oil bath for 15-30 mins every other day. Using corn starch on a cotton ball throughout the day to keep it dry. Crushing up tylenol pm (u can put it in a baggie and use a hammer) mixing it with a TINY bit of hot water and cold sore medication (most people recommend Abreva but i've used L-Lysine+ cream its like 7 bucks instead and it worked fine for me) - put it on over the infected area right before you go to bed (i used a blow dryer to help dry it 1st). Sounds crazy i know but it worked for me.

     - also Ive been experimenting with mixing crushed lysene with the tylenol pm
     -and it will hurt when you 1st put the mix on as a warning - cuz the site failed to mention that

3. QUESTION:
   Vaginal Itching. REALLY BAD. Not Pin-Worms. Not Yeast Infection. PH? Allergic Reaction? Please help.?
   I have had this on and off since the age of 8. (No sexual abuse by the way, just itching for no obvious reason.)

   I have been to the Gynecologist a dozen times + and they always say "It isn't a yeast infection and we can't detect anything else. Use the OTC Creams." and send me on my way. No insurance has prevented me from being able to have any form of advanced testing that might be able to nail down what it might be.

   I've had legitimate yeast infections in the past with the HORRIBLE and SUPER INTENSE itching/burning and Discharge but other than those two outbreaks, I have no abnormal smell or discharge what so ever. Those two times cleared up with the use of OTC Anti-Yeast Treatments.

   The ONLY tissue irritation is from scratching in my sleep, which has led to actually scratching wounds into the labia majora. The itching is limited to the Labia Majora... Meaning, it is NOT on the mucosal tissues (pink tissue) and is ONLY on the skin where hair grows, so again, that limits what it might be.

   It wakes me up at night... It makes me miserable in the day...

   I am using the Wal*Mart brand of Vagicle Maximum Strength (20% Benzocaine) Anti-Itch Benzocaine Cream at the rate of about a tube a month. I put it in a pump-bottle so I don't use too much at a time and I carry Emergency Wipes in my purse.

   When I go to bed, I am so desperate for relief that I take a pump of the 20% Benzocaine Cream and add some Diphenhydramine HCI (benadryl) which is applied topically for both analgesic (numbing) properties as well as antihistamine (allergic reaction reducing) properties. It numbs me out for long enough for me to get to sleep.

   Ibuprofen used to help with the itching but it doesn't seem to do that much anymore.

   The itching is driving me insane and is actually hindering my day to day activities by making me miserable all day AND keeping me from having a good night's sleep.

   I'm also getting Shingles outbreaks on my forehead, nose, and chin when I get stressed, so about one every month or so. Sometimes more, sometimes less...

   Likely or no, I am super careful about washing after applying abriva and creams to my shingles/cold sore outbreaks and never touch my eyes nor my genitals without soap and water.

   I do not have genital herpes. I have never had a blister and was told that my almost constant outbreaks of shingles on my head mean that self-transmission to the vagina is highly unlikely... I have not had many partners that have actually had "vanilla" genital contact. I've had 4 partners my whole life and only had "Vanilla Sex" with one of them and all of this, the itching and the cold sores/shingles outbreaks started before I was sexually active, it is physically impossible for any of this to be STD's or HIV or anything else transmitted through sexual activity... This all started between the ages of 8 and 14 and I didn't have any sexual activity until I was 17.

   Please help me...

   Any advice is greatly appreciated.

   Oh, and please don't tell me to go see my doctor... Been there, done that, don't have the money for anything else.

     Which is a forum full of answers from women experiencing the exact same issue as you are. Hope there's some remedies there that can help reduce or even get rid of your vaginal itch. At this point if medicine isn't helping, I suggest you start learning about home remedies.

     I know when I have vaginal itching, I soak some cotton balls in witch hazel (found next to alcohol in most drug stores) and that helps almost immediately.

   Do I have HPV? I have hand warts that won't go away and chronic canker sores in my mouth. Is this something?
   I have known this girl that I just started recently dating for about a year. I had thought that I had a pretty good idea of her sex history as we had mutual friends. I started to date her about 2 months ago, and we have been having sex for about a month and a half.
   I have had warts before on my hand, but they always came by themselves and went away easily with OTC drugs. I assumed that I got these warts from my job at Jamba Juice, sometimes I would handle dirty objects like on the floor or something. For the past month I've noticed that there are now about 5-6 warts on my left hand that are not going away with my previous treatment. In addition about 2 weeks ago I noticed that the inside of my mouth has a chronic canker sore (once one heals, another comes about a day later). Also, my tongue is even starting to hurt too in specific areas which also look like canker sores. Some other risk factors are that I had recently stopped smoking (which I had been doing for about 4 years), I had taken ecstasy a few times over the summer for the first time (I quit), and I recently got accepted into nursing school where I take care of patients about twice a week.
   However the risk factor that concerns me the most is with my girlfriend. Recently in a conversation she had revealed to me that her ex-boyfriend was involved in man-on-man pornography while having sex with her. This greatly upset me but she assured me that she was tested negative for everything. However after sharing with a few close friends about my problem, they all had heard rumors of her getting herpes. I also checked in on this and her friends told me no.
   I am very concerned and embarrassed about this. My question is are my symptoms any obvious clinical manifestations of a certain STD (i'm worried most about having contracted HPV)? Should I be worried about having contracted anything? I am still working on my health insurance so it'll be a while until I can get tested, and any insight you might have into my problem would be greatly appreciated.

     Hand warts is HPV. There are 100's of types of HPV. All warts are contagious. I didn't know this as a child. You should ALWAYS wear gloves and wash your hands between patients and after patients in the health care field. You should also know that you can get tested for free for any std. Canker sores should not be recurrent like that. Sounds like you have oral herpes and it may not have come from your girl. It could have been from as much as 10 years prior. May have been from just a kiss or sharing a drink with a buddy. Your drug use may have lowered your immune system ergo you are getting crazy outbreaks. Go get tested, and while you are at it get a full panel. HIV, HPV, HSV, EVERYTHING since not only were their rumors but your girl's ex was in high risk group. Good luck!

     Also to the poster who says HPV can't be found on hands-all warts are HPV! You can get sexually transmitted HPV on the soles of your feet, your hands, your thighs and testicles, your mouth, during birth, and a host of other ways. YOu can also get herpes on hands, feet, back of legs anywhere. So maybe you didn't search the right sites dear. But misinformation is why people are still getting AIDS and why Syphillis is back in the US big time and why people are spreading herpes and warts.

5. QUESTION:
   what are some cold sore treatments?
   Ok so I am 16 and I have have the herpes virus for cold sores, not the sexually transmitted one.
   and each time I get a cold sore I am super careful about taking care of it and my crap so i don't leave the germs on the stuff I touch.
   I clean everything that I touch (towels, keyboard, etc) everyday when I have them.
   I wash my hands every half hour.
   I dont need to know anything like that.

   What I need to know is what are OTC creamer/gels I can use to help speed the healing.
   I have tried 2 products.
   Aberva and Lysine.
   Aberva sucks for me....I tried it ONCE and 20 minutes after I put it on, my cold sore doubled in size.
   Lysine, after my aberva misfortune my mom and I went to CVS and asked him what i should use. He gave use lysine, it worked AMAZING for making my cold sores feel better and heal. It really worked on cold sores that werent swollen yet.
   I loved it but I think I am immune to its "magical powers".
   Because not it is just a moisturizer for me now

     Honestly, abreva is the best cold sore remedy I have used over the counter. The trick is to put it on when you first "feel" the burning of a cold sore coming on. I am so paranoid about getting them that sometimes I put a little dab of abreva on and nothing appears. Usually if the cold sore has already appeared then the abreva does make it come out faster (double in size) but that is all part of the cycle and it clears up a whole hell of a lot faster. If you have health insurance go to your doctor and request denavir. I dont have health ins urance anymore so I cant get that medicine. But that was a prescription that worked excellent for me while I used it.
